'Mohanagar' and 'Bohemian Ghora' Lead Hoichoi's Landmark Netflix India Deal

In a major boost for Bengali storytelling, Netflix has partnered with the Bengali-first streaming platform Hoichoi in a two-year agreement that will bring a slate of acclaimed and upcoming series to audiences across India. The deal, announced in Mumbai, will see all new Hoichoi series premiere on Netflix in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, simultaneously with their original Bengali releases on Hoichoi.

Leading the charge are two of Bangladesh’s most popular web series: Ashfaque Nipun’s gritty crime thriller Mohanagar and Amitabh Reza Chowdhury’s comedy-drama Bohemian Ghora. For its Netflix debut, Bohemian Ghora will be released under the title Shaadi Ka Siyappa, broadening its appeal to a wider Indian audience.

The partnership is not limited to these two hits. Netflix will also carry 14 existing Hoichoi titles, including Madam Inspector, Sampurna, Lojja, Eken, and Parineeta: A Love Story. Looking ahead, the first new series under the arrangement will be the folklore-inspired horror show The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi, set to premiere on November 6.

The directors have shared their excitement over the milestone. Amitabh Reza Chowdhury noted that Bohemian Ghora, which follows the story of a truck driver’s eight wives, is a tale deeply rooted in Bangladesh’s soil and folk culture. “From Hoichoi to Netflix — Bohemian Ghora continues its journey beyond borders,” he wrote on Facebook. He also confirmed that the upcoming sequel to Bohemian Ghora will follow a simultaneous release model, premiering on both platforms.

This strategic move by Netflix is part of a wider effort to bolster its library with licensed programming from outside producers, following similar high-profile deals in France and Brazil. For Hoichoi, which launched in 2017 and reaches over 250 million Bengalis globally, this partnership marks a significant step in expanding the reach of regional content.
