Cape Town is currently hosting one of the most significant gatherings of young leaders, and the presence of Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus has brought a powerful voice to the table. As a Counsellor at the One Young World Summit 2026, Yunus is challenging the next generation to rethink the systems that have historically kept people in poverty.
The summit has brought together over 2,200 delegates from more than 190 countries to tackle pressing global issues like peace, climate change, and human rights. Yunus, a pioneer of social entrepreneurship, took the stage at the Opening Ceremony alongside other global figures like Queen Rania Al Abdullah and Maria Ressa to share his vision for a fairer world.
His message to the youth is clear: they are the most powerful generation in human history. He urged them to harness the power of dreams and to remember that the pillars of progress—youth, science, and investment—are not just slogans, but the primary tools for transforming society and food systems. In a world where nearly 1 in 11 people faced undernourishment in 2023, his call for a "three-zero world" resonates deeply with the summit's focus on the global food crisis. Yunus’s presence here is a reminder that building a fairer world requires bold imagination and the courage to act.
