Apple’s iOS 27: New Siri, Same Beta Label

Apple’s iOS 27: New Siri, Same Beta Label

Feels like we've been waiting forever, doesn't it? Apple is finally set to unveil iOS 27 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8. While this update focuses on bug fixes and stability, the main show is undoubtedly the long, long overdue AI transformation of Siri.

Forget the static assistant we’re used to. The new Siri is rumored to be integrated into the Dynamic Island, accessible by a new "Search or Ask" interface, and get its very own dedicated app similar to ChatGPT or Google's Gemini. Rumor has it Apple is partnering with Google to use Gemini models under the hood to finally make Siri capable of natural, ongoing conversations.

However, there is a big catch. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is reportedly slipping a "Beta" label on this new Siri and will even let users opt out. This is a surprising move; "Beta" branding hasn't been on Siri since 2011. It might buy Apple time to fix bugs, but it doesn't exactly scream confidence against polished rivals like Android 17's Gemini Intelligence

Apple's Two-Tiered iPhone Experience

Beyond the AI features, the upgrade path splits iPhone users into two tiers:

The Compatibility Cutoff: The iPhone 11 series and the 2nd-gen iPhone SE will not support iOS 27. The iPhone 12 series and newer will get the update, but only the iPhone 15 Pro and newer (A17 Pro chip) can access the full Apple Intelligence features and the new Siri.

The Hardware Timeline: Developer betas drop on June 8, a public beta lands in July, and the final release will likely launch alongside the new iPhone lineup in September.

WWDC 2026 will also preview how Apple is laying the groundwork for a new foldable iPhone arriving this fall. While iOS 27 is bringing a cleaner, faster iPhone experience, the world will be watching on June 8 to see if Siri 2.0 finally acts as smart as we hoped it would be.
