Google just upgraded NotebookLM with Gemini 3.5 and a cloud computer

The latest NotebookLM update is bigger than a typical feature drop. Google has moved it to Gemini 3.5 and integrated it with the Antigravity coding platform. That means each notebook now comes with its own secure cloud computer that can run code, analyze data, and generate visualizations on its own.

You can now ask for outputs like PNG, SVG, PDF, DOCX, Markdown, CSV, JSON, Excel files, or even PowerPoint slides. It’s no longer just a text-based Q&A tool.

Another practical change: you don’t have to pre-load documents to start a project. You can type a question directly, and NotebookLM will search the web to suggest relevant sources for you.

Performance-wise, Google’s internal tests show a 65% average win rate for Gemini 3.5 over the previous version across five evaluation categories. It performs best in large document analysis (69.9% win rate) and advanced web research (78.2% win rate).

The update is live now for Google AI Ultra subscribers and Workspace business customers. Other tiers will get access over time.

If you work with messy data, long research papers, or complex reports, this update makes NotebookLM feel less like a note‑taker and more like a capable research assistant.
