Instagram Finally Lets You Rearrange Profile Grid Posts

If you've ever felt that your Instagram grid feels more like a fixed timeline than a true reflection of who you are right now, you're not alone.

After years of being one of the platform's most requested features, Instagram is finally giving users the control they've been asking for. As of June 8, 2026, the ability to rearrange posts on your profile grid has started rolling out globally to all users on Android and iOS. This move breaks the platform's long-standing rule that locked posts into a strict chronological order, a constraint that had previously forced creators into workarounds like archiving or deleting content.

For creators and brands, this update isn't just a nice-to-have. A significant number of power users currently spend considerable time planning their grids using third-party apps to maintain a consistent aesthetic or color scheme. By bringing this functionality natively into the app, Instagram is effectively removing a major friction point. Instead of deleting a post that doesn't fit your current theme, you can now simply drag it to a new spot or tuck it further down your profile. Meta has noted that this feature is perfect for "highlighting a new era, resurfacing older content, refreshing your aesthetic, or showcasing key projects or work."

So, how does it actually work?

Using the feature is as straightforward as you would hope. To start rearranging:

  1. Navigate to your profile and long-press any post on your grid.
  2. From the pop-up menu, select the new "Reorder grid" option.
  3. You'll be taken to a new screen where you can drag and drop your posts into any order you prefer. Changes save automatically, but an undo button is available within each editing session.

There are a few important details to keep in mind. While you can reorder as often as you like with no limits, the original upload date of each post will remain the same. So, if you move a post from two years ago to the top of your grid, it will still display its original upload date. Additionally, any posts you have pinned to the top of your grid will remain fixed there and won't be affected by the reordering feature. It's also worth noting that this feature is currently only available on the mobile app, not on the desktop version.

The rollout appears to be happening in phases, so if you don't see the "Reorder grid" option immediately, make sure your app is updated to the latest version. This feature gives you the freedom to treat your profile less like a news feed and more like a living portfolio. It's your grid, after all.
