Instagram just rolled out a feature that creators have been asking for forever: Replace Audio. As of this week, you can finally swap out the music on your published feed posts and carousels.
Up until now, changing a soundtrack meant deleting the post and re-uploading it from scratch — which also meant saying goodbye to all your likes, comments, and shares. The new tool eliminates that trade-off completely.
Here's what you need to know.
How It Works
The process takes about 15 seconds:
- Open the published post or carousel you want to edit
- Tap the two-line (or three-dot) menu in the top-right corner
- Select Edit
- Tap Replace Audio (or just tap the music option)
- Pick a new track from Instagram's music library
- Select the specific part of the song you want to use, then save
- The new audio goes live immediately.
Why This Matters
You keep everything. Likes, comments, shares, reach — none of it disappears. And you can swap the audio as many times as you want.
But here's the catch: Instagram's head of creator product marketing confirmed that changing the audio won't give your post any algorithmic boost. So don't expect a sudden spike in reach — this is purely a creative tool, not a growth hack.
Who Is This For?
Creators can refresh older posts with trending sounds without losing engagement momentum. Brands can update sponsored posts to stay culturally relevant. And everyone else can finally fix that one post where the audio went unavailable.
The feature is rolling out globally this week for feed posts and carousels that use Instagram's in-app music library. If you don't see it yet, update your app and check back.
It's a small change, but a genuinely useful one — which, given Instagram's track record with new features, feels worth celebrating.
