Adobe Just Put 70+ Creative Tools Inside ChatGPT

Adobe dropped something big this week. On August 6, the company launched a unified ChatGPT plugin that pulls together more than 70 of its creative and productivity tools — Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Express, Firefly, and Adobe Stock, all in one place.

It replaces the handful of separate connectors Adobe shipped late last year through OpenAI's Apps SDK. Now there's just one extension. You add it from ChatGPT's settings, type "@Adobe" in the prompt bar, and describe what you want. The system figures out which tools it needs and runs them behind the scenes.

The plugin went live globally on August 6, available across ChatGPT's web and mobile app, as well as ChatGPT Work and Codex.

What can you actually do with it?

Batch edit product photos with one consistent style. Turn a horizontal video into a vertical cut for YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels. Upload a spreadsheet and have Acrobat generate a polished PDF. Search Adobe's template library, swap in your own text and colors, animate it, and export it as a print-ready PDF — all without leaving the chat.

You don't need an Adobe account to get started. Guest users can access basic features. Sign in to your Creative Cloud account and you unlock more: saving work across sessions, accessing your cloud files, and generating images with Firefly. Generation limits depend on your ChatGPT plan.

Why this matters

This isn't just a feature drop. It's a strategic move.

The chatbot is becoming the place people start their work. Adobe would rather be summoned inside ChatGPT than lose the user who never opens Photoshop again. Forest Key, Adobe's VP of Firefly and agentic AI, put it plainly: "We want Adobe's pro-grade tools for creativity and productivity to be available wherever people work".

But Adobe is careful not to cannibalize its own business. The plugin "isn't a replacement" for the flagship apps, Key added, which "go deeper when projects call for hands-on precision". Product lead Deepti Pradeep framed it as an on-ramp back into Adobe's own ecosystem. Quick work happens in ChatGPT. Complex, pixel-perfect work still belongs in the full apps.

For OpenAI, the logic is simpler: every task ChatGPT can absorb is a reason not to leave.

The bottom line

Adobe is betting that conversational interfaces are the future of creative work. This plugin puts professional-grade tools in front of over a billion ChatGPT users — many of whom might never open a Creative Cloud app on their own. It's a freemium play, a distribution play, and a defensive play all at once.

Will it replace Photoshop? No. Will it change how a lot of people get their work done? Probably.
