Just two months after Mir Shahe Alam took oath as State Minister for Local Government in April 2026, state-run BSCIC awarded a Tk 25.57 crore contract to Ruposhi Rice and Pushti Mills Ltd. Documents confirm the minister and his son, Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto, jointly own 100% of the firm.
Broader records reveal that between October 2024 and June 2026, Ruposhi and Simanto’s engineering firm secured at least 12 government contracts worth over Tk 71 crore. While Alam served as a BSCIC director under the interim government, his family entities won six contracts valued at Tk 57.5 crore. After he assumed ministerial office, they bagged six more worth Tk 13.5 crore.
Former Cabinet Secretary Ali Imam Majumder labeled the situation a "clear conflict of interest," citing constitutional provisions that bar ministers from holding management roles in profit-making companies.
Alam denies any wrongdoing, arguing his son secured projects before his political appointment and claiming he stepped away from ownership to avoid conflicts. However, contract dates and shareholding patterns—showing 100% family ownership at the time of the awards—continue to fuel scrutiny from transparency advocates.
