On the night of August 31, 2026, at approximately 10:20 PM, a Bangladesh Air Force pickup truck lost control on the second-floor flyover of the Third Terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The vehicle plunged to the ground below. Seven personnel were onboard. Three didn't survive.
The deceased have been identified as Warrant Officer Sultan Mahmud, Corporal Moniruzzaman Pias, and Leading Aircraftman Mohammad Zubaidul Islam. Four others were injured, with three in serious condition. They remain under treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the incident, with Director Lieutenant Colonel Sami-Ud-Doula Chowdhury stating that detailed information would be released later. Initial reports suggest the driver either lost control or faced mechanical failure. An investigation is underway.
A Nation Mourns
On Tuesday, September 1, a funeral prayer and military parade were held at the BAF Base Bir Uttam A K Khandakar in Dhaka Cantonment. The Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister, Army Chief, and Air Force Chief were among those who paid their respects. It was a solemn reminder that behind every uniform is a person – a son, a brother, a father – whose life was cut short while serving their country.
